5 Problems AC Maintenance Prevents

Maintenance is used to prevent problems from springing up in the first place, but a staggering percentage of homeowners don’t actually keep up with maintenance. It leads to problems down the line that simple AC maintenance in Akron could’ve prevented.

Let’s go over the top five problems that you need to look out for. That way, you know exactly what’s going on with your air conditioner. You can’t prevent every repair call, but you can seriously lower the amount you’ll face during your AC’s lifespan.

1. Lower Efficiency ‘Round the Clock

Maintenance doesn’t just help prevent breakdowns, it also keeps your air conditioner efficient. Think about each component in your AC as having its own battery.

When the battery runs out, the part breaks down. Intentionally neglecting maintenance is like draining the battery at double speed. It runs out faster, and when the battery gets low, it doesn’t work as well.

If you want your energy bills to remain on the lower end, and for your AC to actually cool your home in a timely manner, maintenance is the key.

2. Breakdowns Happen More Often

Low maintenance leads to a high number of repair calls. The problem with this is that your air conditioner doesn’t just break down; multiple parts can get damaged depending on what broke in the first place.

Maintenance sees what happens to parts before they break down, so you’ll be able to know before a part breaks (most of the time). While you’ll still have to pay to replace the part, there won’t be collateral damage on other components in your AC.

3. Your AC Doesn’t Last as Long

Maintenance prevents large-scale breakdowns. Your AC’s lifespan is dependent on continuous care but for more reasons than one. Over time, it develops wear and tear from extended use. When you get a tune-up, that wear and tear doesn’t reset, but it slows down.

While there will always be some level of permanent damage as wear and tear take place, you’re essentially resetting the clock on some of your air conditioner’s utility when you get a tune-up.

4. Crummy Indoor Air Quality

The air you breathe is important, and when your air conditioner isn’t functioning properly, it may impact that air quality. This mainly happens when you don’t change your air filter.

Your filter should be changed every 30-90 days depending on use, and if you don’t change it out, it can impact the quality of your indoor air. It also directly impacts your air conditioner’s efficiency.

5. Refrigerant Leaks

Refrigerant is what makes your air conditioner actually cool the air. When this leaks, it can cause the closed-loop system to freeze over, causing major damage to the air conditioner. It’s also hazardous, which can be an enormous problem if you have pets or small children.

Don’t Get Behind on Maintenance

While air conditioner maintenance isn’t at the forefront of many homeowners’ minds, it should be. We can’t express this enough: stick to a maintenance schedule and don’t skip your annual tune-up. After your next repair call, take the opportunity to establish ongoing maintenance and save yourself from future headaches.
